3 Reasons to Have a Tummy Tuck in 2014

Although abdominoplasty, popularly known as the tummy tuck, is one of the top 5 surgical cosmetic procedures in 2013, it is still not uncommon for clients here at our Houston body contouring surgery practice to express their doubts about the procedure. By and large, these patients will express their concerns on not being able to tolerate the pain during recovery, return to work as they want, or deal with the possibility of infection.

The good news is that it’s already 2014 and tons of advancements for the past few years has made it possible for the following improvements (and reasons to have the procedure done this year!) to occur in a tummy tuck:

1. Efficiency in surgical technique.

In comparison to the tummy tucks performed decades ago which lasted more than 5 hours or so, the tummy tuck surgery performed today is shorter. This is attributed to increased efficiency due to advancements in the surgical technique.

2. No-fuss wound care.

Wound care following a tummy tuck used to involve a lot of dressing changes and suture removals which call for frequent visits to your surgeon post-surgery. However, this isn’t the case anymore for the tummy tucks done today. By and large, absorbable sutures are now used which makes suture removal unnecessary. This also means that stitch marks are now non-existent. Moreover, surgical glue may be used in lieu of bandages.

3. Quicker return to normal.

Efficiency in surgical technique has made it possible for lesser pain during recovery which in turn leads to a quicker return to one’s routine. For majority of patients who work in an office setting, they often find themselves able to return to work within 10 days following surgery. On the other hand, physical activity is often possible within two weeks post-tummy tuck.

All things considered, a tummy tuck done in 2014 is entirely different from how a tummy tuck was done in previous years.
