Body contouring after weight loss

Body contouring after weight lossPlastic surgery is not a solution for overweight people but it can significantly help lose excess weight. There are different weight loss programs that one can choose in order to achieve a healthier body. All of these programs advocate proper diet and regular exercise in order to shed body fat.

However, flabby excess skin can be an unwanted side effect of extreme weight loss. Through the help of body contouring, you can achieve a better-looking figure after the weight loss program.

The results from a body contouring procedure may vary as people lose weight differently. The surgery is specifically tailored according to the patient’s needs, which is why a proper consultation with your surgeon is important in order to determine the best procedures to achieve the best results for your body.

Body contouring can be a combination of different procedures: tummy tuck, thigh lift, liposuction, breast lift, upper arm lift, breast augmentation, breast reduction, excess skin removal, and facial contouring. Surgeons will determine which procedures can be safely combined for you. As with any major operation, recovery will take a considerable amount of time. Patients will be provided instructions on postoperative care so that recovery will be as smooth and quick as possible.

Patients may heal differently, but it is important to let your surgeon know if you feel different or strange. The patient must be aware of possible complications so they can notify their doctors and prevent life-threatening scenarios.

Like any other surgical procedure, body contouring also results in scars. These scars are due to the incisions made to remove all the excess skin and fat in the body. The scars will eventually heal and lighten over time. There are also different products available to minimize scarring.

Once patients start to heal, they will begin to see the results of all their hard work during the weight loss program. They will be able to see a better silhouette from all the excess skin and stubborn fat that has been removed through surgery. This will provide a confidence boost so that patients can learn to love and appreciate their body more.

fat grafting for hourglass figureThe fat grafting procedure to achieve an hourglass figure involves the transfer of your body’s own fat to your buttocks with the goal of giving you a well shaped, attractive, and larger bottom.

During this procedure, liposuction will first be used to remove fat from your stomach, back, and thighs, and then it will be injected into your bottom. This will enhance your hip-to-waist proportion, which is the most important goal in the fat grafting procedure for an hourglass figure.

Fat grafting for an hourglass figure is more effective than the Brazilian butt lift, which only enhances the protrusion of your butt. Fat grafting enhances protrusion and also provides you an ideally shaped bottom with an excellent hip-to-waist ratio.

It is important for you to go to a plastic surgeon who is highly experienced, qualified, and skilled in performing fat grafting for an hourglass figure. There are many plastic surgeons who are experienced in fat grafting, but not in using fat grafting to give you an hourglass body. Women with the hourglass body boast larger behinds, large thighs, and voluptuous breasts.

Your surgeon may boost the size of your bottom from the side with fat grafting; however, he or she may not necessarily be able to reshape your body into an hourglass. Only an experienced, innovative, and skilled plastic surgeon can do this perfectly.

Besides enhancing your bottom, the fat grafting for an hourglass body involves the injection of fat into your hips, which is very critical in achieving your dream figure. If implemented with precision, the injection of fat into this important anatomical region can create the hourglass effect from the back as well as from the front.

In order to qualify for this procedure, you must have extra fat in particular regions of your body, such as your rear, belly, sides, or thighs. A woman who wears size 11 to 13 in dresses is an ideal candidate for the procedure. Thin women size 2 to 4 cannot qualify; if you are thin, you should gain weight before going for the fat grafting procedure to achieve an hourglass figure.

Other factors that determine your eligibility for the procedure include the realism of your expectations from the procedure, the personal goals you want to achieve with the result, your skin tone, your lifestyle, your smoking and drinking frequency (if any), your past surgeries (if any), and your overall health condition. Age is not a big problem, but the older you are, the lower the chances of achieving the same results as a younger woman who undergoes the procedure.

Many of us lie awake thinking about becoming slim overnight. In recent years, obesity has affected more and more people,Slide1 and a liposuction procedure might sometimes look like the ideal solution to get rid of extra fat on the thighs, knees, or abdomen. But liposuction is not a weight loss program: it is a procedure meant to improve your body contours by removing fat deposits in areas of your body that are difficult to address with exercise.

If you go to any plastic surgeon to ask for liposuction in order to lose weight, they will all tell you the same thing: liposuction is not a diet, and you cannot undergo liposuction to lose weight. It is used to remodel the body after a weight loss program, after pregnancy, or just to correct a genetic disposition.

If there were a general remedy for obesity that we could all use with no side effects, no one would ever diet or go to the gym again. But the only way to lose weight and maintain the results over time is through dieting and exercising. Plastic surgery and liposuction can help improve the results and give your body the shape you desire.

Some might argue that liposuction is a sort of localized weight loss procedure, as it targets fat in particular areas of the body; while it might look like this is true, weight loss is usually measured in kilograms and with a scale. In the case of liposuction, we measure the results in centimeters and with the mirror.

It is essential to mention that liposuction doesn’t remove visceral fat, which is the most dangerous type in obese people. The fat that can be eliminated through liposuction is not correlated with weight loss. During the first few months after the liposuction procedure is performed, it is highly possible that the patient’s weight will stay the same, because the volume of fat removed is replaced by fluids that are gradually eliminated during the recovery period.

We would also like to discuss the difference between liposuction and the surgical procedures recommended for obesity. Procedures like the gastric sleeve have the sole goal of controlling obesity by reducing the patient’s ability to ingest food. The stomach is cut to become much smaller, and large meals are no longer an option after the procedure. Reducing the quantity of food is meant to reduce weight in time. After one of these kinds of procedures, patients might lose weight and find that they are left with a lot of extra skin or localized fat that they just can’t get rid of. This is when plastic surgery can help with liposuction or a tummy tuck, as well as other procedures meant to smooth the contours of the body and improve the appearance.

If you are not one of the lucky few who are born with a natural hourglass body, there are ways you can achieve this most envied figure. shutterstock_428559472There are a variety of plastic surgery procedures to give you a round and curvy figure, with a sharp waist, rounder buttocks and bust, and attractive, large thighs. Plastic surgery will help you achieve a more feminine silhouette, with an S-curve on the rear, which is the most important element of the hourglass body.

While there are a number of plastic surgery procedures to get the hourglass figure, the hourglass tummy tuck is the most popular and advanced body contouring method to achieve your dream silhouette. The procedure combines conventional tummy tuck practices with fat transfer and liposuction. The good news is that this trendy procedure will give you not only a more even and tauter abdomen, but also a rounded outline.

The hourglass tummy tuck procedure is recommended for women who want to not only flatten their abdomen, but also transform their shape to achieve a natural-like hourglass figure. The slim waistline and tighter and flatter abdomen you achieve with this procedure will put you on a par with women boasting the natural hourglass body. The degree to which your abdomen will be flattened in this procedure depends completely on your goals, expectations, personal needs, and desires.

According to studies, there are three broad categories of women seeking the tummy tuck procedure: those who want to get rid of excess skin and fat, those who want to achieve a flatter abdomen, and those who desire tauter skin and a flatter tummy. The hourglass tummy tuck procedure is a perfect answer for women in all these categories because it meets all these aesthetic needs at once, based on the unique needs and desires of each patient.

In the hourglass tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Cortes will first make an incision in your skin and remove the extra skin and fat from the surgical site. The surgical site will then be sealed in the shape of a corset, so the muscles in the tummy wall are flattened. Liposuction is recommended to contour your abdomen, and he will transfer fat to the hips for the ultimate hourglass shape.

You can return to your daily routine a week after the hourglass tummy tuck procedure. However, you should take proper care of your health and strictly follow your surgeon’s instructions in order to enjoy the benefits of your hourglass figure.

A flatter and firmer midsection is a common aesthetic goal for majority of men and women who seek Dr. Cortes’expertise here at our Houston body contouring surgery practice. By and large, their cosmetic options can be narrowed down to two procedures — a tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty and liposuction.

Both procedures have their own set of sub-types  depending on the techniques used in surgery. In the case of tummy tuck, there could be a variation in the type and location of incisions as well. Nevertheless, both tummy tuck and liposuction have the same end goal in mind — improve the appearance of one’s abdominal area and make it appear naturally proportional to the rest of your body.

When to Choose Liposuction

Generally, liposuction is the ideal body contouring procedure for you if have a hard time getting rid of stubborn pockets of fat in the abdominal area. Majority of our patients who have greatly benefited from liposuction are those who have done almost everything to improve their abdominal contours through diet and exercise.

In addition, liposuction can also be done to other areas of the body with excess pockets of fat such as the arms, chin, neck, sides (love handles, anyone?), butt, and legs. In some cases, one can even have the option to use their extra fat to augment their breasts or buttocks.

It is important to note that liposuction will not help you eliminate stretch marks and extra skin tissues. Neither will it improve the appearance of loose abdominal muscles. For the aforementioned concerns, a tummy tuck may be done in conjunction with liposuction.

When to Choose Tummy Tuck

Simply put, a tummy tuck is your best bet if your concerns has to do with sagging abdominal skin and loose abdominal muscles. The procedure per se involves an incision made in the lower abdominal region which allows Dr. Cortes to lift slack muscles and remove excess skin. The remaining skin will then be re-draped for a well-contoured and aesthetically balanced midsection.

Making the Decision

When making the decision between a tummy tuck and liposuction, one of the key factors to consider is which specific issues are actually bothering you. For some of our patients, a combination of both may be more helpful than just choosing one of the two procedures.

Allow us to help you figure out which body contouring procedure will suit you best. Call us at 713.234.6244 or fill out this contact form to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Cortes. We look forward to your visit!

Although abdominoplasty, popularly known as the tummy tuck, is one of the top 5 surgical cosmetic procedures in 2013, it is still not uncommon for clients here at our Houston body contouring surgery practice to express their doubts about the procedure. By and large, these patients will express their concerns on not being able to tolerate the pain during recovery, return to work as they want, or deal with the possibility of infection.

The good news is that it’s already 2014 and tons of advancements for the past few years has made it possible for the following improvements (and reasons to have the procedure done this year!) to occur in a tummy tuck:

1. Efficiency in surgical technique.

In comparison to the tummy tucks performed decades ago which lasted more than 5 hours or so, the tummy tuck surgery performed today is shorter. This is attributed to increased efficiency due to advancements in the surgical technique.

2. No-fuss wound care.

Wound care following a tummy tuck used to involve a lot of dressing changes and suture removals which call for frequent visits to your surgeon post-surgery. However, this isn’t the case anymore for the tummy tucks done today. By and large, absorbable sutures are now used which makes suture removal unnecessary. This also means that stitch marks are now non-existent. Moreover, surgical glue may be used in lieu of bandages.

3. Quicker return to normal.

Efficiency in surgical technique has made it possible for lesser pain during recovery which in turn leads to a quicker return to one’s routine. For majority of patients who work in an office setting, they often find themselves able to return to work within 10 days following surgery. On the other hand, physical activity is often possible within two weeks post-tummy tuck.

All things considered, a tummy tuck done in 2014 is entirely different from how a tummy tuck was done in previous years. Call us at 713.234.6244 or fill out this contact form to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Cortes to learn more about how a tummy tuck can help improve not just your body but also your life!  We look forward to your visit!

Stubborn pockets of abdominal fat, sagging abdominal skin, and weakened abdominal muscles are just some of the main concerns of men and women who seek Dr. Cortes’ expertise in body contouring here at our Houston tummy tuck practice.

While their concerns have one thing in common — that is significantly improve the appearance of their abdominal region, patients who come in for the first time for consultation are often confused about which body contouring procedure suits them well. Should they have a tummy tuck? Or a liposuction? Should they do both perhaps?

Understanding What Each Procedure Does

First of all, it may be best to figure out first what each procedure is designed for. The primary goal of a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a firmer and flatter midsection by removing excess abdominal skin and tightening the underlying abdominal muscles. On the other hand, liposuction is mainly used to remove stubborn pockets of fat.

Combining Both Procedures is Possible!

Liposuction and a tummy tuck can definitely be done together! However, extra caution should be practiced so as not to disrupt the blood supply in the abdominal area. Disruption in the blood supply can lead to bleeding and consequently result to delayed healing.

Not a Weight Loss Procedure

Moreover, we would like to remind our patients here our practice that both liposuction and a tummy tuck are not weight loss procedures but  are aids to helping you get that body shape you want. By and large, you need to be within or near your ideal weight before having either or both procedures.

To learn more about combining both tummy tuck and liposuction, call us at 713.234.6244 or fill out this contact form to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Cortes. We look forward to your visit!

Making the decision to have a Mommy Makeover often involves a lot of questions and doubts for most of the women who see Dr. Cortes for a consultation here at our Houston body contouring surgery practice.

There’s the question of what specific outcomes you would want to see, which procedure/s can help achieve your desired outcomes, and whether or not you are actually physically and mentally ready to have the makeover. In addition, there’s a lot of planning involved — from making sure someone will be watching over your little ones while you’re in surgery to making sure that you have chosen a plastic surgeon that you’re most comfortable with.

By and large, there are 3 questions that you need to critically ask yourself before making the decision to have a Mommy Makeover. We encourage you to be honest with your answers to help you get on the right track and achieve your desired outcomes as much as possible.

1. Are you within or near your ideal weight for the past 6 months or so?
Losing the extra pounds and being within or near your ideal weight before having the procedure will help you achieve the desired outcomes.

2. Are you done having children?
If you’re planning to give birth again, you might want to postpone your plans of a Mommy Makeover, particularly having a tummy tuck. Pregnancy can re-separate again the abdominal muscles that are tightened during a tummy tuck.

3. Are you done breastfeeding?
The increased blood vessel activity coupled with enlarged ducts while breastfeeding increases your risk of bleeding during surgery. Thus, it may be best to put off surgery first until you’re done breastfeeding.

Your Mommy Makeover Consultation with Dr. Cortes

To learn more about your Mommy Makeover options with Dr. Cortes, we invite you to get in touch with us for a personal consultation. Call us at 713.234.6244 or fill out this contact form to schedule a personal consultation. We look forward to helping you achieve your pre-baby body and beauty back!

A middle-aged woman recently visited us here at our Houston body contouring surgery practice wanting to know her options in getting rid of her muffin top that doesn’t seem to budge despite being on a low-carb diet and regular exercise. We suggested a tummy tuck procedure for her main concerns.

“Am I in a perfect position to have the procedure?” was one of her main questions, followed by questions on how to prepare for the surgery, how soon the results can be noticed, and what the recovery process is going to be like.

By and large, the best time for you to get a tummy tuck is:

  • when you’ve done almost everything to get rid of the excess fat, slack abdominal muscles, and sagging skin in the abdominal area
  • when your self-confidence is affected with how your abdomen looks like
  • when you just experienced massive weight loss or pregnancy (and have no plans of getting pregnant again)
  • when you are relatively in good health such as pre-existing health conditions have been stabilized
  • when you are within your ideal weight
  • when you have already understood what happens during and after the procedure, including its risks and benefits, and has realistic expectations about the outcomes of the procedure
  • when you can make the commitment to quit smoking at least 4-6 weeks before your tummy tuck procedure

Choosing Between a Full or Mini Tummy Tuck

After a thorough discussion with Dr. Cortes, the middle-aged woman mentioned earlier in the article decided to have a mini tummy tuck as recommended. Generally, a mini tummy tuck may be more ideal than a full tummy tuck if you are within your ideal weight and has little or no sagging abdominal skin.

Dr. Cortes’ mini tummy tuck procedure involves a single incision only (whereas a full tummy tuck involves two incisions) between the belly button and pubic bone. Consequently, the  lower skin is pulled down to tighten the abdominal area. Just like a full tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck may also include liposuction.

Dr. Cortes’ approach to a tummy tuck procedure, may it be a mini or a full tummy tuck, is to not only remove excess abdominal fat and tighten weakened abdominal muscles. He also aims to create a customized tummy tuck plan that will suit your needs and will help you achieve an abdominal contour that is in proportion with the rest of your natural curves.

Call us at 713.234.6244 or fill out this contact form to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Cortes. We look forward to your visit!

Changing the body’s appearance is often times more involved than just eating a well balanced diet and exercising regularly. Even the strictest of diet and exercise regimens are sometimes not enough to eliminate fatty tissues stored in the body. We offer many different safe, effective procedures that will assist you in achieving the body of your dreams. Talk to the doctor during your initial consultation about your body contouring options.
