How to get rid of the post baby tummy

May 26th, 2017

How to get rid of the post-baby tummyWhen a woman gets pregnant, changes in the body occur. The belly stretches to accommodate the growing baby, but the stomach does not immediately return to its normal state after giving birth. In most cases, women develop a small pouch on their belly after pregnancy. This is because diastasis recti, or the separation of abdominal muscles, is a common occurrence after pregnancy. When this happens, the tummy can look big as though the woman is still pregnant, even when they return to their pre-pregnancy weight. Exercise and proper diet will help in losing the belly, though some women resort to surgery in order to remedy this.

A tummy tuck is a popular procedure performed on women after pregnancy. It is a major surgery that deals with removing excess skin and fat in the tummy area. For patients who have split abdominal muscles, suturing can also be done alongside a tummy tuck.

The procedure involves making a horizontal cut spanning from one hip to the other. Excess skin and fat will be removed and a new belly button can be made to ensure it is in the right position. The fat can also be removed through liposuction to prevent the occurrence of a “muffin top” when the patient wears jeans. The skin is tightened and during the recovery, patients are required to be in certain positions such as bending over until the skin loosens up.

As recovery can take time, patients must move around to prevent blood clots from forming. Swelling may also occur, but a drain can be placed to remove any accumulated fluid. Recovery can be especially tough for moms who have children to take care of, so having assistance while recuperating is recommended.

The tummy tuck is an effective procedure to lose one’s belly, though it cannot return the stomach to its original state prior to pregnancy. Make sure to consult with your surgeon to know the risks and complications of getting a tummy tuck, as well as set realistic expectations, in order to ensure your safety and satisfaction.

Is working out necessary after liposuction

April 29th, 2017

Is working out necessary after liposuction?Liposuction is a great procedure that removes excess fat in certain areas of the body in order to get a better shape. It is one of the surgical solutions that helps remove love handles or muffin tops that have developed over time. However, patients must understand that they cannot return to the same eating and exercising routines after undergoing a liposuction procedure.

The body has different types of fat. In particular, the fat that is removed during liposuction is called the subcutaneous fat. Fat that is found around internal organs is called visceral fat, which is not removed during the procedure. This means that even if a patient undergoes liposuction, they cannot be exempt from health problems or diseases that may develop. This is why healthy eating with proper exercise is advised to help control the visceral fat in the body, lessening the risk of hypertension, diabetes, and other diseases.

It is important to understand that liposuction is not a weight loss solution. It is simply to change the shape and contour of the body by removing fat in certain areas. Removing excess fat from the body will not prevent new fat from developing. This is why proper diet and exercise is crucial to maintain one’s figure after a liposuction procedure.

Naturally, patients need proper recovery and rest before resuming exercise. Once the body has healed, the patient can begin with simple exercises before gradually moving on to more challenging routines. Combined with healthy eating, your body will be in its best shape possible.

Preventing infection after a tummy tuck

April 21st, 2017

Preventing infection after a tummy tuckA tummy tuck surgery is a procedure that helps remove the excess skin and fat in the stomach. It is a procedure that can help patients further appreciate the type of body they have achieved through proper diet and exercise. Like any medical procedure, there are risks involved in a tummy tuck surgery. One of the possible complications is infection.

An infection can be caused by different bacteria that can enter the body. While there are natural bacteria inside the body, external bacteria can enter from the openings or incisions created during surgery. An infection should be treated with antibiotics as soon as possible, otherwise it can lead to death.

Many surgeons will prescribe pre-operative antibiotics, wherein patients would be required to take antibiotics prior to surgery to help prepare the body against any bacterial contamination that may occur. As there are a number of different antibiotics available, doctors must ensure that the patient is not allergic to these medications to avoid complications.

An infection can occur on the suture site of the tummy tuck surgery. Usual symptoms indicating an infection include abscess, fever, pain, or redness on the incision site. Even if the patient is already taking antibiotics, surgeons must assess the abscess to determine if additional medication needs to be prescribed or further procedures need to be done.

Infection brought about by bacteria such as the Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a more dangerous kind of infection that can occur in patients who have undergone surgery. These types of bacteria are resistant to first generation antibiotics, requiring stronger medication in order to be treated. Patients who have a history of MRSA infection are given this medication during surgery in order to prevent the infection from recurring.

Infection after a tummy tuck surgery can also occur as a result of using non-sterile tools during surgery. Certified, experienced surgeons strictly work in a germ-free environment, and only unprofessional ones (such as those that offer their services at a cheap price) would do so otherwise. It is best to be careful in selecting the right surgeon in order to ensure your own safety.

Swollen abdomen after a tummy tuck

April 14th, 2017

Swollen abdomen after tummy tuckWhen there are excess skin and fat in the abdominal area, a tummy tuck procedure can be suggested by surgeons in order to make the stomach look firmer. A tummy tuck is a major procedure and may take a long recovery time for patients.

Like with any medical procedure, the body is at risk of developing complications after surgery. A swollen abdomen is a common complication after undergoing a tummy tuck. The blood supply and drainage functions of the body become disrupted from the removal of skin and fat, affecting tissues in the process.

Having a swollen abdomen is possible for different reasons. The bloated sensation that patients feel may be a side-effect of different medications used during surgery. This kind of swelling is usually resolved after a couple of weeks.

The appearance of a swollen abdomen may be due to the accumulation of the fluid inside the body. It is normal for the body to develop fluids during the healing process. Because tissues are cut in some areas, fluid can accumulate and not drain, especially in the incision area as the scar formed stops the fluid from draining. Minor fluid accumulation usually goes away on its own, however large fluid accumulation requires draining via aspiration or drain tubes.

Another cause of the swelling may be due to the muscles in the abdomen itself. As the body heals, it will take time for the abdominal muscles to adjust and relax to the new shape of the body.

The swelling period after a tummy tuck surgery varies on a case-to-case basis as patients heal differently. The swelling is a part of the healing process and will eventually go away as the body repairs the damaged areas. Proper nutrition will also aid in the recovery process.

As a swollen abdomen can stretch the stomach, wearing compression garments help to prevent extensive scarring. These compression garments can be worn after surgery, but doctors must ensure that the garments are worn properly. Too much compression can limit or stop blood flow to the area, resulting in tissue death.

When to seek help after liposuction

April 11th, 2017

When to seek help after liposuctionLiposuction is a common cosmetic surgery performed in many places all over the world. It deals with the subcutaneous fat in the body and surgically removes them by sucking them out. This is done through a tube called a cannula that leaves only a small incision mark on the body. It is usually an outpatient procedure and patients are expected to fully recover at home. The healing period depends on how extensive the procedure is.

The first thing that patients should know is what to expect after the procedure. This way, they can assess if the side effects they are feeling are normal or otherwise need medical attention. Patients must also follow their doctor’s postoperative instructions to avoid possible complications.

After the procedure, it is natural to feel pain around the surgical site. Fluid accumulation and swelling is possible due to the fat cells that have been removed. If the accumulation is large, draining may be required. Otherwise, the swelling will subside on its own.

On the other hand, if there are signs of infection, pain in the legs, bleeding, as well as difficulty breathing, patients should call their doctor immediately. If an infection reaches the bloodstream it can spread to other parts of the body, leading to more dangerous complications and possibly death. High fever, redness, pain, and increased swelling are common indicators of an infection.

Patients who feel pain in their legs or calves may have formed a clot called deep vein thrombosis. This can develop if the patient doesn’t move much after surgery. To ensure proper circulation, patients must walk regularly to avoid possible fatal complications such as a pulmonary embolus, wherein the clot migrates to the lungs.

It is important for patients who have undergone liposuction to keep a close eye on their bodies and to be sensitive to what they are experiencing. It is imperative to allow the body to fully heal before doing strenuous exercises to ensure safe recovery. While liposuction is a procedure that leaves few marks on the outside, the body must still heal properly from the inside.
