Hi, this is Dr. Hourglass, and welcome to another video in our channel Superhourglass. Today we are going to discuss: The first week of recovery after an hourglass procedures. In this channel, we will discuss everything you need to know for you to get the hourglass shape you’ve always wanted.
Welcome back! The first week of recovery after an hourglass procedure is critical both in terms of the aesthetic results and your health condition. Before going home after the surgery, your plastic surgeon will provide you detailed instructions on the care you should take during the recovery period and the activities to avoid.
The drains placed during the surgery will remain with you for some days during the first week of recovery. They are meant to carry away any fluids discharged by your body at the surgical site. The drains help prevent seroma, which is the accumulation of fluids under the skin at the surgical site.
The first 24-72 hours following the surgery may be uncomfortable for you, as you may experience some pain and discomfort. Your plastic surgeon may recommend you some medications to manage the pain and keep you safe from potential infections.
You will also be required to wear compression garments for a few weeks after the surgery, especially during the first week. These garments will expedite the healing process by keeping your improved contour intact, apart from controlling the swelling, bruising, and discomfort.
During the first week of recovery, you must not sit or engage in physically demanding activities like running, stretching, workouts, weight lifting, jumping, and bending. Physical activities during the first week after the procedure is guaranteed to not only affect the achieved results in negative ways but also trigger health complications. Make sure to rest and sleep on the body areas that have not been affected by the surgery.
Your body is at risk of blood clotting after the hourglass procedure. To decrease the risk of blood clotting, your plastic surgeon may instruct you to get up and take short and slow walks after every few hours during the first week of the recovery period. It is important to move your hands and legs to help blood circulate through your body. Doing so will also speed up the healing process.
Since you will not be able to run your household chores during the first week of recovery, you should arrange someone to take care of your domestic errands. Also, make sure to have someone accompany you at home for at least 1-2 days following the procedure, as you would need help at every step.
Using the restroom can be particularly uncomfortable. When using the toilet, you should take special care and keep any undue pressure away from your butt by squatting. Remember, the more careful you are during the first week of recovery, the smoother and quicker will be the healing process and the better the results.
