Combining breast augmentation with the tummy tuck surgery

The breast augmentation procedure is one of the most desired plastic surgery procedures in the world. The procedure is performed with the purpose of increasing the size of the breasts for women who have small or asymmetric breasts. The procedure is safe and provides spectacular results in most cases when performed by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon.

Breast augmentation can be performed by using two methods: breast implants or fat transfer, but the most commonly used is breast implants surgery. The procedure provides the patient with larger, rounder, and more alluring breasts after it is performed.

However, there are cases in which the patient desiring to undergo a breast augmentation is also confronted with a level of sagginess of the skin on the tummy. In this case, the plastic surgeon might recommend combining the tummy tuck surgery with a breast augmentation.

The combination of procedures is also often a good idea for women who have given birth and are now left with small breasts and a saggy abdomen after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

When the tummy tuck is performed in association with breast augmentation, the plastic surgeon will often recommend general anesthesia. The procedure can last between 1.5 and 4 hours, depending on the complexity of each case. After the patient is under the effects of the general anesthesia, the plastic surgeon will start performing the breast augmentation with implants. Once this stage is ready and the plastic surgeon is happy with the results, the tummy tuck will be performed next. Dressings are applied to the surgical sites and compressive garments over the dressings. In most cases, the patient will have drain tubes and will leave the medical facility with them still on. The drain tubes will be removed after a few days when the drainage of fluids has stopped.

When breast augmentation is performed in combination with the tummy tuck, the benefits are numerous for the patient. Before anything else, the aesthetic benefit is far superior to having just one procedure. Moreover, the results of one procedure complements the results of the other. In other words, the breasts will look bigger because the tummy is firmer and the tummy will look flatter due to the size of the breasts. This is probably one of the reasons why the combination of these procedures is so sought after nowadays. Moreover, the patient only has to go through one recovery period and pay certain fees just once.

However, it can be more difficult for patients undergoing combined procedures. It is important for the patients having a breast augmentation in combination with a tummy tuck to know that they will not be allowed to stretch their arms excessively or lift heavy objects for at least a month after the procedure. Lying or sleeping on the back is strongly discouraged for the first two to three weeks after the combined procedures.
