Is numbness after a tummy tuck normal
Tummy tuck surgery is a cosmetic procedure also known as abdominoplasty. It is a process that removes the excess skin and fat attached to the abdominal area and is a popular post-pregnancy procedure. This kind of surgery is done using several techniques, depending on the body’s current state or need. These three techniques are the mini tummy tuck, the standard tummy tuck, and the extended tummy tuck.
The mini tummy tuck removes the least amount of excess skin on the abdominal area. It also produces the least amount of scarring due to its smaller incision. However, this is only advisable for those who will be having a minimal amount of fat and skin removed. This is most commonly performed on women who have a tiny pouch of skin that can’t be removed with diet or exercise. Because of the small amount of fat and skin to be removed, the navel will not be repositioned in this procedure. The recovery time varies from one patient to another. After the surgery, patients are given pain killers and prevented from doing intense physical activities.
The standard or traditional tummy tuck removes more skin and fat compared to the mini tummy tuck surgery. This is for people who have lost a lot of weight and have remaining loose skin. This procedure requires a larger incision, spanning the width of the hips. Liposuction can also be done in conjunction with this procedure to remove more fat from the abdominal area. Navel repositioning may be required due to the amount of skin to be removed. The recovery time for this procedure is considerably longer.
The last type is the extended tummy tuck surgery. This is for patients who have a large amount of loose and sagging skin to be removed. The incision also spans the hips and may be extended to the sides. Liposuction is also performed to remove more fat and the belly button is also repositioned. The recovery time for this procedure is longer than the standard tummy tuck surgery.
